| Abstract: | The nearby excited states of Fe2+ in MgO are investigated by Raman spectroscopy. We observed an A1g impurity mode (185 cm?1) and an electronic transition at 110.5 ± 0.8 cm?1 which we associate with the first excited states of the ferrous ion, Γ3 and Γ4, previously observed by far infrared optical absorption. |
