Abstract: | The protonation of the aromatic ring of 9-methylcarbazole under the influence of trifluoroacetic acid in 1,2-dichloroethane was established by spectrophotometry. Deuterium exchange between 9-methylcarbazole and deuterotrifluorotrifluoroacetic acid was evaluated quantitatively by means of mass spectrometry and the PMR spectra.
