Microscopic theory of charge-density wave systems

Abstract:An effective action (in imaginary time) for the phase of the order parameter is derived using the path integral formulation of the microscopic theory. After analytic continuation, the classical equation of motion is derived. Dissipation is found to arise from impurity scattering and from the screened Coulomb interaction with normal electrons. Similarities to a recent theory of Josephson junctions are discussed.
