| Abstract: | A new methodology for functionalization of the imidazole ring via the zwitterionic intermediates and their carbene tautomers generated by nucleophilic addition of 1-substituted imidazoles to electron-deficient acetylenes followed by reactions with the appropriate electrophiles is discussed. |
