Abstract: | This paper presents a finite element method by deriving the stiffness matrix of cracked element from the stress intensity factor. The method can be used to evaluate the strain response of the cantilever beam with a single edge crack. By using the method of identification in time domain, the modal parameters are identified and at the same time the effect of crack closure is taken into consideration. Analysis has also been made of the sensitivity of the strain to the faults. Test results show that the strain response is more sensitive to faults than the displacement response. Then, a distinguishing function is introduced, which is more effective than any other existing ones in failure detection. Finally a new approach to on-line vibration monitoring and fault diagnosis is given. |
