Decomposition and separation procedures for the quantitative microanalysis of ruthenium and ruthenium alloys Summary The quantitative determination of microamounts of metallic ruthenium and also of ruthenium in Ru-Pt- and Ru-Pt-Al-alloys succeeds if the samples are treated in a sealed tube at 520–540° with a mixture of K2S2O7 and KCl. The dissolved ruthenium is separated as RuO4, by distillation with H2SO4-HClO4, from the accompanying elements and determined photometrically with 2,4-diphenylthiosemicarbazide. The total error for the decomposition, distillation and photometric determination lies at around ± 5%.
