The ionising radiation effect on physico-chemical properties of organosilicon oils

The effects of various doses of gamma-radiation (10³–10⁶ Gy) on physico-chemical characteristics (dielectric constant, viscosity, surface tension, refractive index) of polymeric organosilicon oils with methylsiloxane and methylphenylsiloxane chain have been studied. Molecular structural and chemical changes in oils under influence of radiation have been studied by IR-spectroscopy. High radiation stability of organosilicon oils has been observed. It was found that polymethylphenylsiloxane is the most radiation resistant liquid.
