Vibronic structure of absorption and luminescence spectra of perdeuterotriphenylene in n-heptane matrix,at 77 k

A vibrational analysis of highly resolved absorption, fluorescence and phosphorescence spectra of perdeuterotriphenylene (TF-d₁₂) in polycrystalline n-heptane matrix, at 77 K, was carried out. In S₁ ? S₀ transitions spectra the totally symmetric vibrations a'₁ appear only in combination with e' fundamentals. The vibronic structure of the phosphorescence spectrum shows the symmetry of TF-d₁₂ molecules in the T₁ state to be lowered. Assignments of some fundamental frequencies of the TF-d₁₂ molecule in the S₁ state, as well as new assignments of its two ground state fundamental frequencies, are proposed.
