Abstract:The mechanical strength of bone depends first of all on the condition of the cortical bone. In the present study the Ca/P ratio was estimated in intact cortical bone samples from iliac crest of healthy humans, 36 women and 44 men, aged from 15 to 55 years using INAA. No statistically significant differences (p>0.05) were observed of age- or sex-related Ca/P ratio. The mean value (M±SD) of the Ca/P ratio for the whole group studied, 2.21±0.29, was within the range of published data and close to the median value. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.
