| Abstract: | The light stimulated interaction of anthracene and oxygen was studied by the MO (molecular orbital) method. Using the principle of orbital symmetry conservation, the interactions anthracene-oxygen in the ground and first excited states and in various geometric arrangements were classified as symmetry allowed or forbidden. The results indicate that the photo-oxidation of anthracene is catalysed by transition metals. |
