Abstract: | Using water or water/glycerine solutions, it has been found possible to simulate the fluid flow seen in Gd3Ga5O12 melts and therefore study the effect of crystal rotation and diameter on the fluid flow. It has been found that the flow within the crucible can be described as falling into one of three distinct types each of which has been observed during GGG growth and in other oxide systems. Furthermore, the generation of dislocations during growth and their distribution have been found to be related to the transition from one type of flow to another. |
