Abstract:The ion kinetics around a spherical object immersed in a sub‐sonic flowing plasma has been investigated by non‐invasive laser induced fluorescence for direct measurement of the ion velocity distribution function. The measurements are compared to Langmuir probe and emissive probe measurements. Indications for ion focusing as observed by previous works were observed. The plasma under observation was varied in magnetization and mean parallel plasma drift. The experiments were conducted in the linear plasma device VINETA at the Max‐Planck‐Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. (© 2014 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
