Résumé Par des voies totalement différentes de celles suivies dans le travail chimique ou analytique classique et des moyens originaux, laChromatographie quantitative sur papier s'est développée. A l'échelle du microgramme et même pour des quantités parfois mille fois plus faibles, des réalisations d'une étonnante simplicité et d'une reproductibilité remarquable ont été faites. Cette technique possède tous les caractères d'une microtechnique parfaite, elle est douée d'une portée générale: théorique et pratique; organique, inorganique; préparative ou synthétique, analytique; qualitative et quantitative. Ce cas démontre la nécessité d'élargir la conception microchimique au delà de la notion de microanalyse et d'analyse.

Summary Quantitative paper chromatography has developed by ways that are totally different from those followed in chemical or classical analytical procedures. Entirely original means have been employed. On a microgramm scale and even for amounts that sometimes are a thousand times less, the results accomplished are of astounding simplicity and remarkably reproducible. This technique has all the character of a microtechnique. When perfected it is of general application: theoretical and practical; organic, inorganic; preparative or synthetic; analytical, qualitative, quantitative. This instance demonstrates the necessity of enlarging the microchemical concept beyond that of the notion of microanalysis and analysis.

Zusammenfassung Die Entwicklung der quantitativen Papierchromatographie verlief durch-aus verschieden von der der klassischen Analytik und mit Hilfe durchaus origineller Mittel. Im Mikrogramm-Maßstab und auch für tausendfach geringere Mengen wurden Verfahren von erstaunlicher Einfachheit und bemerkenswerter Reproduzierbarkeit ausgearbeitet. Diese haben die charakteristischen Merkmale mikrochemischer Arbeitsweise und sind von allgemeiner Bedeutung in theoretischer und praktischer Hinsicht, für organische und anorganische, präparative und synthetische, qualitative und quantitative Aufgaben. Darin zeigt sich die Notwendigkeit, den Begriff der Mikrochemie über den der Analytik bzw. Mikroanalytik hinaus auszudehnen.
