Abstract:A stability analysis of a network model proposed by Haken is carried out for the case of an inhomogeneous spectrum of growth rates. The degree of multistability as a function of the coupling strength between network units is determined. An application to priming shows that the network can reconstruct the fundamental phenomenon that primed items have shorter recall latencies than non-primed items when assuming that learning affects the inhomogeneity of the growth rate spectrum.
