Abstract: | In aqueous pyridine solutions, Co2+, Ni2+, Mn2+ and Zn2+ effectively catalyze the oxidation of ascorbic acid by molecular oxygen. A kinetic expression consistent with the experimental data is given and a possible mechanism proposed.
