Abstract: | Oxidative addition of aryl halides, ArX, to chlorocarbonylbis(triphenylphos-phine)iridium(I) yields iridium(III) aryl complexes, IrCl(X)(Ar)(CO)(PPh3)2. The reactivity of the aryl halide decreases in the order I > Br > C1, and electron-withdrawing substituents in the aryl ring accelerate the reaction. The IrIII compounds may be utilised as arylating agents. |
