Abstract: | It is shown that no less than four types of metal crystals of size up to a few hundreds micrometers with a fifth order symmetry can be electrodeposited. Experiment shows the crystals to form from two-dimensional nuclei and three-dimensional clusters via a disclination mechanism. Possible ways of relaxation of elastic-strain fields from disclinations in the growing pentagonal crystals are shown. |
