A study on the dehydriding kinetics in the Mg2Ni-Ni (< 5 wt.%)-H2 system

Abstract:The dehydriding kinetics of the Mg2Ni-Ni (< 5 wt.%)-H2 system is studied at temperatures between 553 and 593 K under hydrogen pressures from 0.8 to 3.2 bar. In the temperature range from 553 to 563 K the nucleation of α-solid solution of hydrogen in Mg2Ni is found to be the rate-controlling step for the dehydriding reaction. In the temperature range from 573 to 593 K the rate-controlling steps are Knudsen flow and ordinary gaseous diffusion of hydrogen molecules through pores, interparticle channels and cracks.
