Abstract: | The problem of flow of a perfect fluid from a slit separating two parallel planes is given a mathematical formulation for the case of a submerged jet, as well as for the case of a flow with a free boundary. Various types of flow are classified. The results of numerical solutions are compared with experimental data. The phenomenon of reversal of the vortex sheet which occurs when the flow rate through the slit is reduced, is discussed. The self-modelling problem is solving using the method of matching the asymptotic expansions. A cumulative effect is discovered, namely that the rate of penetration of a narrow central part of the self-modelling jet exceeds the rate of flow of the main part of the jet by one order of magnitude. |
