Crystal and molecular structure of gochnatolide,a sesquiterpene lactone

The crystal and molecular structure of the gochnatolide, has been determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis. The compound, obtained from the leaves ofGochnatia hypoleuca subsp.obtusata, is a germacr-8,12-olide. The two molecules in the asymmetric unit are linked together by hydrogen bonding which results in differences in the conformation of the ester side chains at C(14).Contribution No. 1097 of the Institute de Química, UNAM.
