Abstract: | This study is concerned with the stress field around holes in plates of a transversely isotropic material, such as a reinforced plastic, with a low resistance to transverse, normal, and tangential deformation. The problem is solved on the basis of the general theory according to I. N. Vekua. It is shown that in the case of a strongly anisotropic material disregarding the transverse deformation will lead to a large error in the determination of the stress field.Institute of Metallurgy, Dnepropetrovsk.
