| Abstract: | A solid state laser has been developed which employs a spherical pumping cavity. The rod of the active medium (ruby, neodymium, etc.) and the flash tube are symmetrically placed with respect to a plane passing through the centre of the sphere. With Nd3+-doped glass an efficiency of 3% is obtained. |
