Abstract: | A systematic variation of the exciton fine-structure splitting with quantum dot size in single MOCVD-grown self-organized InAs/GaAs quantum dots is observed, ranging from several tens to as much as , thus covering more than one order of magnitude. Piezoelectricity is identified to be the dominant factor governing the observed trend. A change in sign of the fine-structure splitting is reported for the first time, originating from quantum dots with confinement potentials elongated in the and crystal direction, respectively. |
