Plastic strain localization and necking in Zr-Nb alloy

Abstract:Plastic strain macrolocalization at the parabolic stage of strain hardening in Zr-1 wt% Nb alloy is studied. The plastic flow is found to be unstable, which shows up as the oscillatory periodic space-time variation of the local strain distribution. The results are discussed in terms of a synergetic model of plastic flow evolution.
