| Abstract: | A method for the measurement of radiative lifetimes in ions is described, in which a uniform electric field extracts radiating ions from a viewing field. Decay curves are obtained by measuring the decrease of light intensity as a function of field strength. The method is tested and applied by studying emission from the F2+(A 2Πu) vibrational levels ν = 6–9, yielding lifetimes of 1.3 ± 0.1 μs for ν = 6 and 1.5 ± 0.1 μs for ν = 7–9. |
