| Abstract: | The methylindoles3 a–3 c react with ethyl orthoformate1 a or ethyl trithioorthoformate1 b byLewis-acid catalysis regioselectively to bisindolylmethyl-cations4 and to trisindolylmethanes5. In this type of reactions the orthoester electrophiles represent potent acylation equivalents with nearly equal reactivity. |
