Abstract:
A general Fourier analysis of the Stokes parameters used for extracting the Mueller-Stokes matrix elements is made. The analysis shows that by using an elliptically polarized beam in conjunction with a rotating half-wave plate only a d.c. and fourth harmonic terms arise whose coefficients are the Mueller-Stokes matrix elements.
