Abstract: | The fluorescence emitted from the initially prepared vibronic level (IPL) in S1 of pyrimidine vapor is polarized and the degree of polarization varies remarkably for excitation along the rotational contour of various vibronic absorption bands, whereas the broad fluorescence emitted from levels to which the molecule is transferred from the IPL as a result of intramolecular vibrational redistribution (IVR) is nearly depolarized. On the basis of these results, the role of molecular rotation in IVR is discussed. |
