Abstract: | Fast responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogels with improved properties were prepared in phenol aqueous solutions with different concentrations. Due to the expanded network structure in water, the resulted hydrogels are capable of absorbing a large amount of water, i.e. exhibits a much increased swelling ratio at room temperature. Importantly, the hydrogels demonstrated much faster response rate than that of traditional PNIPAAm hydrogel upon external temperature increase. |
