The reaction of 3-acetyl-2, 2-dimethyloxirane with phenols under conditions of acid catalysis

The reaction of 3-acetyl-2,2-dimethyloxirane with phenol and p-cresol in the presence of sulfuric acid at 70–90°C forms derivatives of 3a,9b-dihydro-4H-1,3-dioxolo[4,5-c]chromene, and also 2,2,4-trimethyl- and 2,2,4,6-tetramethylchroman-3-ones.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 11, pp. 1455–1457, November, 1973.
