Surface perturbation technique for flow-induced vibration and noise control

Abstract:A novel surface perturbation technique has been developed recently and applied to control fluid-structure interactions, including vortex streets, flow-induced vibrations and vortex-induced noise. In this article, we summarize this technique, major applications, control performances, and possible physical mechanisms responsible for flow modification, drag reduction, controlling fluctuating forces/structural vibrations, and noise control.
