Abstract:A modified off-axis unstable resonator which output has no obscuration is of help to interpret mode formation of a copper vaPOr laser. Although the near field intensity distribution of the output beam is uniform and symmetric, the far field one becomes asymmetric. More output POwer is concentrated in small divergence angle compared with on-axis configuration. An explanation based on geometrical optics and g&in saturation is presented.
