| Abstract: | Abstract The methylating properties of dimethyl methylphosphonate have been investigated. Aromatic mono- and polycarboxylic acids were converted into their methyl esters by heating with dimethyl methylphosphonate. Similarly phenols or amines gave their respective O- or N-methyl derivatives. The sodium salts of sulfinic acids also reacted yielding sulfones in high yield. |
