Determination of Low Level Mercury in Organic Samples

Abstract

This report describes work done to develop a method for the determination of low-level mercury in organics from a chemical plant. The method developed is based on heating the sample with phosphoric acid, collecting the atomic mercury produced on a gold-plated Nichrome wire, followed by thermally releasing the mercury through a UV spectrophotometer. The method is useful down to a few ppb mercury.
