| Abstract: | Mercury(II) at the sub-ppm level is selectively trapped on a column packed with cross-linked polystyrene gel beads soaked with zinc dithizonate or thiothenoyltrifluoroacetone. Mercury trapped on the beads can be back-extracted into the aqueous phase with a hydrogen halide solution. Mercury in sea water at ppm or ppM level has been successfully preconcentrated by this procedure. |
