A theoretical study of the emulsion polymerization of styrene: The effect of the initial dispersion of the system on the polymerization rate and size distribution of polymer-monomer particles

Abstract:A mathematical model of emulsion polymerization that takes into account the possibility of formation of polymer-monomer particles from monomer microdroplets is proposed. It is shown that the theoretically calculated polymerization rate, the concentration of polymer-monomer particles, and their size distribution are governed by the initial state of the original emulsion system (monodisperse or bidisperse system of microdroplets).
