On the influence of Poisson's ratio on circular plate natural frequencies

Abstract:Nayfeh and Kluwick 1] studied simple-wave solutions of non-linear hyperbolic equations comparatively by using three methods: namely, (1) the method of renormalization, (2) the analytic method of characteristics and (3) the method of multiple scales. The method of multiple scales was found to be superior to the other two, and yielded correct results. However, the method seems to involve difficulties in respect to conventional concepts of partial differentiation. In this context, this note presents another method—the Poincaré-Lighthill-Kuo method—which provides not only correct end results but also an elegant procedure.
