Abstract:Water-soluble CdS nanocrystals were synthesized via hydrothermal approach by a single source precursor. The as-prepared CdS nanocrystals exhibit a strong quantum confined effect. TEM results show that the nanocrystals have a narrow size distribution. The CdS nanocrystals have a very slow nucleation and growth rate due to a very slow decomposition rate of 3-mercaptopropionic acid/cadmium complex. The CdS nanocrystal sizes can be well controlled by reaction time. The XRD result shows that the CdS nanocrystals have a hexagonal structure. The ZnS nanocrystals can also be prepared by a similar approach.
