| Abstract: | Solutions of Mn(THF)2Br2 and MnI2 and tertiary phosphines in tetrahydrofuran at 0°C are oxidised by dioxygen or electrochemically giving deep blue-purple solutions which have identical electronic spectra. The principal band with λmax at 570 nm has ?>9000 1 cm?1 mol?1. Tertiary phosphines have been shown to be oxidised to the corresponding tertiary phosphine oxides. No evidence was found for the reversible formation of dioxygen-manganese complexes. |
