Calligraphy Education in the Tang Dynasty's Private Schools

The calligraphy education in private schools was one of the elementary calligraphy education forms in the Tang Dynasty, and was closely associated with reading. Jijiupian and Qianziwen, two ancient Chinese primary readers, were then adopted as main textbooks because of their superiority for learning to read and improving one's penmanship. This education not only formed a set of relatively mature teaching methods but created systematic teaching theories. The methods and theories, which can be found in some special essays written at that time, produced great influence on future calligraphy education.
