Abstract:	Evolution of the flow field around a circular cylinder and a sphere instantaneously starting with a constant supersonic velocity (M = 5 and Re = 10⁵) from the state at rest is studied by means of numerical integration of unsteady twodimensional Navier–Stokes equations.
