Abstract: | Ionization energies of core electrons of the fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine atoms in 27 reaction series of haloderivatives depend on the inductive, the resonance, and the polarization effect; the latter has not been considered before. The contribution of the polarization effect varies in a broad range and in some cases exceeds 50%. Halocentered radical cations formed by the abstraction of the core or valence electron from the molecule slightly differ in the polarization effect value. |
