A new method for phase grating testing and measurement

A setup in described that gives a very simple visual demonstration of phase grating non-uniformities, such as modulation variations. The principle of the method is that the amplitude transmittance of a phase grating is a chromatic function. We show how this setup can be modified to measure the modulation in the case of a uniform grating. The method is described here in the case of the binary phase grating.
