Abstract:The absorption spectrum of a new crystal Nd-Sr5 (PO4)3F(S-FAP) was measured, its two strong absorption peaks showed that Nd: S-FAP can be appropriately pumped with a radiation at 575 nm and 805. 4 nm. By using tunable dye-laser (570. 0~600. 0 nm)as pump source, the performance of low threshold and high efficiency Nd:S-FAP laser at 1.059 μm has been achieved. A slope efficiency of 49% and a lasing threshold energy of 2. 5 mJ have been measured. The laser characteristics, such as 1.5 nm linewidth, 5 ns pulse width, almost complete polarization, and so on, are presented.
