| Abstract: | A variational difference method based on the variational principle and finite difference is presented, and applied to stress analysis of an arch dam and its foundation. The dam-foundation system is analysed by means of the coupling of a two dimensional model and a three dimensional model. The results of several examples indicate that the present method has the advantages of the variational method and the finite difference method and it has the features of fewer unknown quantities. Besides, it meeds less computer time. |
