Chargino-neutralino production inpbar p-collisions for the left-right supersymmetric model

Abstract:An extension of the Supersymmetric Standard Model to the supersymmetricSU(2)L×SU(2)R×U(1)B–L model is considered. The gauge group contains a bidoublet and triplet Higgs field. We investigate the possibility of detecting chargino and neutralino production in
$$pbar p$$
-collisions atCDF, namely
$$pbar p to W_{L,R}^ -   + X to tilde chi _j^ -  tilde chi _i^0  + X$$
. A numerical analysis is performed for
$$tilde M_{chi  - }  geqslant 45,GeV$$
, tan betage1 and a lower bound on the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) mass,
$$tilde chi  geqslant 14GeV$$
GeV. Using conservative assumptions ofMWRge300 GeV andgsimegLsimegR, we find the cross sections are:
$$sigma _L (bar pp to W_L^ -   + X to tilde chi _j^ -  tilde chi _i^0  + X) approx 0.11,nb$$
, and
$$sigma _R (bar pp to W_R^ -   + X to tilde chi _j^ -  tilde chi _i^0  + X) approx 4.6$$
pb, and thus pgrLge24pgrL at
$$sqrt s  = 1.8$$
TeV. Cross sections are also given for larger values of the center of mass energy
$$sqrt s $$
up to those available at the SSC. The results are compared with the prompt-lepton background of theWL, R decays from
$$pbar p to W_{L,R}^ -   + X to ell ^ -  v_{ell L,R}  + X$$
. Both decays for
$$W_{L,R^ -  } $$
bosons show Jacobian peaks for
$$p_T  = (1/2)sqrt {hat s}  simeq (1/2)M_{WL}  simeq 40,GeV$$
(pTge150 GeV forMWR) at theta=90°. Furthermore the chargino signature unlike the promptlepton background is symmetric under the Jacobian peak. We also exhibit the dependence of the angular distribution of the chargino on the c.m. angle theta forpTsime40 GeV, 150 GeV at
$$sqrt s  = 1.8$$
TeV.
