Abstract:Abstract

The origin of the blue color of calcites from Perewal (USSR) has been investigated. It is suggested that radiation-induced color centers (CO3 ?3, dislocation and twinning are involved in the coloring mechanism. Evidence is obtained from thermoluminescence and optical absorption of natural and X-irradiated calcite samples.
