Abstract:In this peper, a soliton transmission experiment by using actively mode-lcoked erbium doped fiber ring laser(EDFM) as soliton source is presented. Driven by a single 2. 5GHz microwave signal, the actively mode-locked fiber ring laser can generate 2. 5GHz and 5GHz optical pulses by tuning the bias voltage and microwave power. The product of pulse width and spectrum width is near 0. 315 for a transform-limited hyperbolic secant pulse, so itis suitable for soliton transmission. Soliton transmission over 52km at 2. 5GHz and 21km at 5GHz has been successfully achieved respectively.
