Abstract: | On the basis of an analysis of the fractographic data for two polymeric materials (polymethyl-methacrylate and polycaprolactam) it is shown that it is possible to differentiate the effects of local heating and structural changes at the end of the main crack on the reduced lifetime of polymers under cyclic as compared with static loading.
