Abstract:Summary The retention of cyanoalkanes and cyano-alkylbenzenes during SFC was investigated on alkyl and cyanoalkyl-bonded stationary phases and compared to alkane retention. The particular behaviour of short chain homologues was attributed to a silanophilic interaction with surface-OH groups on the silica and inhibition of specific interactions between solutes and C10CN bonded groups.
Keywords:Supercritical fluid chromatography  Homologue retention  Bonded stationary phases
